a beautiful mess

Well I honestly don't know where this week has gone.
The perfectionist in me has been fretting about the mess that the store seems to still be in, but then at the same time, literally all week, our customers & visitors have been telling us how fabulous it's looking.
I guess that it just goes to show that a little disorganised chaos never hurts anyone.
Either that, or they're just humouring me and being nice.
Andrea did raise her eyes to the heavens when I announced at something like 2.30 Wednesday afternoon that I planned to not only dismantle one of our main display areas, but that I also intended to wallpaper it with a little patchwork, and then put a new display up around it.
 As usual, she was right.
It was a longish night.
But then, I never was one to take the easy route, and I think the end result provides a great new focal point instore, and shows off some of our new vintage treasures beautifully.
I loved watching people today, carefully choosing the fishing buoy that spoke to them the most.
All handmade. All kind of the same but no two alike. Different rope on every one. I wonder how many nets they came off, and how long ago? The glass is such a beautiful colour.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend.
I'm currently taking Holly Becker's latest online blogging course, and let me tell you that it has me both fired up and petrified at the same time.
I hope you like the changes so far - ok, they're subtle at this stage, but there is a brand new 'about me' page, and shock, horror - even a photo!
And that's only at the end of the first week!

  1. It all looks quite lovely and inspiring. I love a shop in slight disarray. I've been looking for the magazine you were in, but I can;t find it here.

  2. Hi Amanda, I love the styling in these pics. As you know, before I met you your store became my favourite in Welly.
I haven't made any changes on my blog yet. I am really daunted by it all and not sure I have the skills to make it look like I want. We'll see what happens x

  4. Hi Amanda,
Don't you think that, when we do something ourselves, we are always over critical ? It all looks absolutely wonderful and I'm sure that your customers think so too.
Do you know, I bought one of those glass buoys in Cornwall when I was about 10 years old and had it in my bedroom for years ....... I think that it might still be in our loft !! haha XXXX

  5. Hi Amanda, I feel as though this week has whizzed by too, I think mainly due to me trying to take in everything from our course :) I've decided just to read and think about my blog in relation to everything Holly says, and to make changes slowly over time. I think your 'about me' page is great! LOVE your photo!!! So nice to see your lovely face, you should use that pic or a similar one in your little profile image.

    Hope you're having a lovely weekend x

  7. I am pinning these lovely photos to my colours board. The lovely glass buoys remind me of our boating days growing up, and similar boating treasures. That is what is so inspiring about your blog, not only the colour, humour and ideas etc. . . but a glimpse to the past when your magpie treasures are shared. Excellent 'about me' page (very appropriate that the colour queen put the black dress away) ha ha. Looking forward to the new evolving blog style, its going to be fabulous!

  8. Hi there, just floating around the internet and found your beautiful blog. Your store looks lovely. A visit to NZ is definitely on my bucket list. When I make it there, your shop will definitely be on my list of things to see in your beautiful country. It looks like one of those stores you never want to leave.

Love your blog too, so much lovely interior goodness!
