I'm back! Perhaps a little worse for wear, but all in one piece, and with plenty of new ideas. I think that's possibly one of the best things about visiting the trade shows. Even if you don't necessarily find lots of new goodies, it is the perfect opportunity to pick up new ideas, look at how others merchandise, & get a feel for some new directions. And, as well as buying some special new treasures for the store, dare I say it, it also gives me an idea of what not to buy. I often don't want what everyone else seems to think is fabulous. I'm still not sure if this is a good or a bad thing! But I have learnt after how ever many years, that I only ever buy the things that I love. It's my golden rule. And I have learnt to trust my instincts. I just have to hope that my darling Small Acorns customers will see things my way!!
And the nicest thing about a trade show, especially a boutique event, is catching up with the talented creatives, artists and makers behind some of the beautiful niche ranges we are fortunate to stock at Small Acorns. I'll have more for you about some of them later in the week.
Now, it's time to catch up with some of your blogs! I've missed my daily fix!
Amanda xx

ReplyDeleteNice pics!! I missed the show this time, so thanks for sharing :-)
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing the rest of the pics!
Oh what fun!! You have a great job :) I bet you hear that all the time!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delight it must have been to meet the Artists who love their crafts. The photos you took are certainly a nice range of colors and items. Welcome Back! :)
ReplyDeleteThis certainly is one of the things about my job that I love! It's funny how most of the creatives didn't want to appear in my photos, but I'm grateful that they were all happy for me to snap away!
ReplyDeleteThose clowns and rabbits are gorgeous, and what an inspiring place to wander around!
ReplyDelete:)
haha!! I don't like being in photos either! Just love photos being taken of what I do.
ReplyDeleteI see we share a love of colour. You make me laugh - I never seem to like what others do - and it was a source of worry for me too for a long time, until I realised I often liked some things about two years before they really came into fashion. By then they had lost some of their appeal for me and I didn't want to make them any more.
Oh Pfff! In anycase we are who we are and we like what we like and that world out there is still big enough for us to find a few who like the same things as us - enough to buy them!
Lucky you meeting all those wonderfully creative arty hands on people!! Rest up now girl so you can display all in your shop ;-)
Hi Amanda,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great job you have and must be delightful going around looking at all the fabulous merchandise and meeting creative people.
Love the ribbons, bowls, & Belle & Boo.
Have a great week
Hugs
Carolyn
I'm sure you've chosen wisely Amanda - it's good not to swim with the tide all the time. Interesting to hear you thought you saw MOTH @ DJ's in Sydney with Miranda. I wondered why he hadn't been home for 3 nights!
ReplyDeleteMillie ^_^
Mmmm those little colourful ceramics look tempting, and I do have a weakness for ribbons. Have been picking Arlenes brain today, re new stock, I have one of your vouchers itching to be used.
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI think if anyone can knit a mug cosy you can :) and if I think I can...then you definitely can..lol.
I am still inlove with your little felt acorns...if your ever overstocked feel free to throw a few my way ( wink wink)
thanks for all the info about the fair..I would have love to have gone..and completely understand what you mean by...only selling things you love yourself...I dont think it would be right to do it any other way. Yes you can try and cater for everyone taste..but then ..you wouldnt enjoy what you do as much if you didnt love all the things that inspire you and you want to share with others.
Your doing a fab job. Anna xo
Why did I not know you had a shop???? Silly silly me....what fun you must have...I am off to visit it right now. Your images are amazing..and I love all the cute goodies..why can't we get these things in Canada???
ReplyDeleteMum and I are off to the Akld fair this weekend, straight after the Martinborough fair - crazy days :)
